The Sauvage ferry is a cable ferry that links the two banks of the Petit-Rhône in the Camargue, free of charge. It is in the municipality of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, 6.5 km from the village and the Mediterranean.

Operating hours

The ferry in service, the Sauvage III, has run the crossing since 1972. It carries 8 cars, 30 passengers and the crew, and is 28 metres long and 5 metres wide.

It crosses the Petit-Rhône guided by pulleys running along a cable, which counters the current, sometimes strong. This is also economical: energy is only used to move forward.
